March 11.2009-
This morning I posted to the Valle blog (my one fellowship responsibility) about the progress of my work at SBi. As its probably the only time I'll talk about my job I thought I would post it on here as well. This is one of three projects I work on, the other two are geared more towards structures research. Not surprising, I find this project to be the most exciting! Although being the sole EQ expert for Denmark is pretty cool too;)
New Season, New Project
<>The start of March has led to more projects and a wonderfully fast approaching Spring. I have begun working on a third assignment which is to review and contribute to the development of a system of indicators for buildings. The Scandinavia-wide project is called CREDIT which stands for "Constuction and Real Estate- Developing Indicators for Transparency". This rating system is being developed to facility decision making regarding product or process impact on the enviroment, economy or society and building performance. This is a building assessment method similiar to LEED in the US or BREEAM in the UK.
<>Primarily the difference in the sustainable indicator systems and those being developed today is the scope of the project. CREDIT is an international benchmarking scheme that will be linked to national sustainability indications and company benchmarking standards that already exist. It will focus on the end-user needs and incorporate business objectives from the real estate and construction sectors; those that manage both the imput processes and the overall function of the facility. It considers impact, to the environment, economy and society, at both the local level and the regional and global level. The scope is raised to include social performance indicators, facility management indicators, construction product performance, cost parameters and user satisfaction schemes, as well as sustainability and environmental performance criteria.

<>This is an exciting project for me to be working on because of its multi-disciplinary nature and it will allow me the chance to meet people working in other departments and focus areas of SBi. <>Spring may be upon us with sunnier and longer days but we still are experiencing some traces of winter. The temperature is not yet warm and cold rain will still greet and end the day for us, but I am eagerly anticipating the change to a spring climate and continually impressed by the amount of extra daylight we obtain everyday. Its a great time to be in Scandinavia! (and why we live in Seattle:)
